… I am proud of the generosity of my countrymen. We raised around £13,500 at and after the event on Friday at the RSA – around A$30,000. Not bad for 4 days planning and a bit of work on the night and afterwards. I’m so grateful for the support of the Australian High Commissioner, Mr John Dauth, and the Agent General of Victoria, Mr David Buckingham, the Chief Executive of the British Red Cross, Sir Nicholas Young and to all the VIPs and corporates who donated raffle prizes and auction goods, and indeed all the attendees who dug so deep on the night. We were grateful for the presence of the Australian Prime Minister’s wife, Therese Rein, and for the support and attendance of author Kathy Lette and former Wallabies coach, Eddie Jones, and for the superb singing of our lovely soprano, Annamaria Butterworth.
But most of all we were grateful for all those who donated. I hope it may go some way to assist those who are suffering.
My personal thanks go to my wonderful co-organisers, Justin Kerr-Stevens and Belinda Lester, for making the event happen, and to the support of Hans Van Leeuwen at the Australian High Commission for assisting us all along the way.
